Municipal Solid Waste Management Systems (MSWMS) worldwide are currently facing pressure due to the rapid growth of the population in cities. One of the biggest challenges in this system is the inefficient expenditure of time and fuel in waste collection. In this regard, cities/- municipalities in charge of MSWMS could take advantage of information and communication technologies to improve the overall quality of their infrastructure. One particular strategy that has been explored and is showing interesting results is using a Wireless Sensors Network (WSN) to monitor waste levels in real-time and help decision-making regarding the need for collection. The WSN is equipped with sensing devices that should be carefully chosen considering the real scenario in which they will work. Therefore, in this work, three sets of sensors were studied to evaluate which is the best to be used in the future WSN assembled in Bragança, Portugal. Sets tested were HC-SR04 (S1), HC-SR04 + DHT11 (S2), and US-100 (S3). Tests considered for this work were air temperature and several distances. In the first, the performance of each set to measure a fixed target (metal and plastic box) was evaluated under different temperatures (1.7 - 37 ℃). From these results, two best sets were further used to assess distance measurement at a fixed temperature. This test revealed low absolute errors measuring the distances of interest in this work, ranging from 0.18% to 1.27%.This work has been supported by FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia within the R&D Units Project Scope: UIDB/05757/2020, UIDB/00690/2020, LA/P/0045/2020, UIDB/50020/2020, and UIDP/50020/2020. Within increased production and economic/social dependence of plastic utilization, an environmental problem has also emerged. In this scenario, plastic solid waste (PSW) recycling/management/recovery has become a problem of public concern, with a global generation estimated at 150 million tonnes per year. Materials produced from PSW can be classified as primary (performance/characteristics equivalent to virgin plastic), secondary (performance’s requirement lower than the original application), tertiary (PSW used as feedstock for the generation of chemicals and fuels), and quaternary (energy recovery via incineration) recycled materials [1]. For instance, pyrolysis of PSW has been extensively used for the thermochemical conversion of useless PSW into oil, gas, and carbon materials, thus classified as terciary recycled material.Adriano S. BACKGROUND: Transplant renal artery stenosis (TRAS) is the major vascular complication associated to adverse events in patients with kidney grafts, whose incidence ranges from 1% to 23%. Angiography is the gold-standard for diagnosis, enabling immediate treatment; however, due to the variable anatomy and location of anastomosis, additional projections are often required, leading to greater exposure to contrast medium and radiation. Tridimensional rotational angiography (3D-RA) appears as a tool for diagnosis and treatment of TRAS. The aim of this paper was to evaluate the accuracy of measurements obtained by 3D-RA in comparison to conventional angiography. METHODS: From April, 2010 to January, 2011, 41 3D-RAs were performed in patients with clinical suspicion of TRAS. Images were analyzed by independent observers; conventional angiography measurements were obtained online and 3D-RA measurements were obtained offline with the Philips Allure 3D-RA software. RESULTS: Thirty-five 3D-RAs (84%) were considered adequate for angiographic measurements, and 20% provided additional and relevant information for the therapeutic strategy. There was no statistically significant difference between measurements obtained from the reference diameter and minimal luminal diameter of the artery using 3D-RA and conventional angiography. In addition, there was a strong correlation between them CONCLUSIONS: 3D-RA comes up as a useful tool for TRAS diagnosis, providing accurate measurements and complementary and relevant information for the diagnosis and treatment, in addition to potentially reducing procedure time and exposure to contrast and radiation.INTRODUÇÃO: A estenose da artéria do rim transplantado (EART) é a principal complicação vascular associada a eventos adversos em pacientes portadores de enxerto renal, cuja incidência varia de 1% a 23%.

Initial growth of Eremanthus erythropappus (DC.) Macleish in function of planting and topdressing fertilization

Growing demand for alpha-bisabolol oil extracted from Eremanthus erythropappus (DC.) Macleish, a Brazilian native tree, justifies its commercial plantations. However, its silviculture is relatively new and lacks information, especially about its nutritional aspects. It is the first study to focus on the field response of E. erythropappus to fertilization. We aimed to assess the effect of planting fertilization and topdressing on its initial growth. The experiment, conducted in Lavras, Brazil, consisted of six different fertilization treatments using different doses of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K), with the quantities based on soil analysis results and recommendations for other forest species. We designed the experiment in four randomized blocks using or not P at planting and application or not of N and K on top dressing, with the increase until 3X P dose when using N and K. Over 20 months, we evaluate the height (H) and base diameter (BD) and processed the data by ANOVA and Scott-Knott test (p<0.07). There was no response to any dose of phosphorus, while there was a positive response to the application of nitrogen and potassium, even without the application of phosphorus. The results indicate topdressing on E. erythropappus to maximize its growth and production

OBJECTIVES: To identify predictors of in-hospital mortality in patients with acute myocardial infarction undergoing pharmacoinvasive treatment. METHODS: This was an observational, prospective study that included 398 patients admitted to a tertiary center for percutaneous coronary intervention within 3 to 24 hours after thrombolysis with tenecteplase. ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT01791764 RESULTS: The overall in-hospital mortality rate was 5.8%. Compared with patients who survived, patients who died were more likely to be older, have higher rates of diabetes and chronic renal failure, have a lower left ventricular ejection fraction, and demonstrate more evidence of heart failure (Killip class III or IV). Patients who died had significantly lower rates of successful thrombolysis (39% vs. 68%; p = 0.005) and final myocardial blush grade 3 (13.0% vs. 61.9%; p<0.0001). Based on the multivariate analysis, the Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events score (odds ratio 1.05, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.02-1.09; p = 0.001), left ventricular ejection fraction (odds ratio 0.9, 95% CI 0.89-0.97; p = 0.001), and final myocardial blush grade of 0-2 (odds ratio 8.85, 95% CI 1.34-58.57; p = 0.02) were independent predictors of mortality. CONCLUSIONS: In this prospective study that evaluated patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction treated by a pharmacoinvasive strategy, the in-hospital mortality rate was 5.8%. The Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events score, left ventricular ejection fraction, and myocardial blush were independent predictors of mortality in this high-risk group of acute coronary syndrome patients.Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP) Department of CardiologySecretaria de Saude do Municipio de São PauloHospital Municipal TatuapeUNIFESP, Department of CardiologySciEL

Eletromyography of abdominal muscles in different physical exercises: An update protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis

    Get PDF
Background:The abdominal muscles are extremely important because they are directly involved in the functions of support, containment of viscera, and help in the process of expiration, defecation, urination, vomiting, and also at the time of childbirth. Many exercises and equipment are used to strengthen the abdominal muscles, and the workouts are proposed for a variety of purposes, such as preventing and rehabilitating low back pain, improving sports performance, achieving aesthetic standards, among others. Exercises that potentiate the electromyographic activity promote a greater recruitment of muscle fibers and are more effective to improve or maintain of the force. The electromyographic activity analysis allows us to reflect on the quality of the exercises proposed, consequently, to choose and order the exercises properly in a training session. Methods:Our systematic review protocol will developed following the reporting items for the systematic review. To identify relevant studies, we sought articles on the following bases: MEDLINE, PubMed, Europubmed, SciELO, Physiotherapy Evidences Data Base (PEDro), Cochrane, and Google Scholar. The methodological quality of the studies included in the review will evaluated using a checklist and quality assessment. For intervention studies, risk of bias will estimated using the Cochrane Collaboration tool. Results:The results of this study will show the electromyographic activation of the abdomen in the different types of exercises. Conclusion:Ethics approval was not required for this study because it was based on published studies. The results and findings of this study will be submitted and published in a scientific peer-reviewed journal.Systematic review registration:PROSPERO CRD42018086172.Univ Fed Uberlandia, Inst Biomed Sci, Electromyog Lab, Uberlandia, MG, BrazilUniv Fed Uberlandia, Lab Expt Med, Uberlandia, MG, BrazilUniv Fed Goias, Dept Biol Sci, Catalao, BrazilUNIPAC Coll Uberlandia, Uberlandia, MG, BrazilUniv Fed Uberlandia, Coll Phys Educ, Uberlandia, MG, BrazilAtenas Coll, Morphofunct Dept, Paracatu, BrazilUniv Fed Sao Paulo, Dept Biosci, Sao Paulo, BrazilUniv Fed Sao Paulo, Dept Biosci, Sao Paulo, BrazilWeb of Scienc

Search for new particles in events with energetic jets and large missing transverse momentum in proton-proton collisions at root s=13 TeV

    Get PDF
A search is presented for new particles produced at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at root s = 13 TeV, using events with energetic jets and large missing transverse momentum. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 101 fb(-1), collected in 2017-2018 with the CMS detector. Machine learning techniques are used to define separate categories for events with narrow jets from initial-state radiation and events with large-radius jets consistent with a hadronic decay of a W or Z boson. A statistical combination is made with an earlier search based on a data sample of 36 fb(-1), collected in 2016. No significant excess of events is observed with respect to the standard model background expectation determined from control samples in data. The results are interpreted in terms of limits on the branching fraction of an invisible decay of the Higgs boson, as well as constraints on simplified models of dark matter, on first-generation scalar leptoquarks decaying to quarks and neutrinos, and on models with large extra dimensions. Several of the new limits, specifically for spin-1 dark matter mediators, pseudoscalar mediators, colored mediators, and leptoquarks, are the most restrictive to date.Peer reviewe
